If you are an active volunteer with Furry Friends Refuge and would like to involve your children who are under 12 years of age, they are welcome to participate in our junior volunteer program.
If you are not currently a volunteer but wish to get involved with your child at Furry Friends, you must first become a volunteer by filling out a volunteer application and attending one of our volunteer orientation sessions (please do not bring your child to orientation).
Each adult volunteer may provide supervision for two junior volunteers and must be present with them at all times.
Ways to help with an adult
Here are some ways that junior volunteers can get involved in helping the animals.
♦ Community outreach events: Junior volunteers can volunteer with their parent at any outreach event including the mobile adoption center, PetSmart, farmers market, and fundraisers.
♦ Deep-clean communal cat rooms: Junior volunteers can deep-clean one of the communal cat rooms on Saturday or Sunday mornings with a parent.
Junior volunteers may interact with the cats in the room and brush them while being responsible for cleaning litter, food dishes, walls, and floors. A cat room takes approximately one hour to deep-clean.
Ways to help on their own
Programs that do not require adults to be active volunteers include:
♦ Off-site fundraising: Hold a supply drive for the shelter (ideas for what to collect can be found on our Things We Need page) or host a lemonade stand/bake sale to benefit our animals.
♦ Koins for Kitties: Sign up with the shelter to bring a donation jar to their school, a Scout troop, or 4-H group to raise money for the animals.
