Volunteer Coordinator—this part-time position will coordinate all activities of Furry Friends Refuge’s volunteer program including recruiting, training, recognizing, and supporting volunteers, maintaining volunteer records, and performing related work required to achieve our No-Kill mission. The ideal candidate will be a “people person” and will be empathetic with outstanding communication and project management skills. This position will work under general supervision of the shelter director.
The volunteer coordinator will recruit volunteers and position them to assignments that obtain maximum fulfillment and engagement. The coordinator will meet with staff to correctly identify volunteer needs and will proactively educate volunteers on the organization and its funding needs. It is expected that the number of volunteer hours filling identified needed roles as a result of this position significantly exceed the number of hours required for coordination. Volunteer coordinator will be required to work a portion of most weekends, must be proficient in technology, and must be able to address emotional situations with tact as well as independent judgment in line with policy and procedural guidelines. Animal Caretaker: Will provide care for all animals at our 3505 Mills Civic Parkway West Des Moines facility. Must be able to life 50 lbs regularly, experience handling animals of all kinds, able to stand and do physical work for long periods of time, must have a can-do attitude. All team members must be passionate about our no-kill community building mission and love animals. Must be able to work alongside volunteers in a cooperative and appreciative manner. Medical Assistant Intern—Furry Friends is looking to hire a medical assistant intern. This position will assist with the needs of the high volume spay and neuter clinic as well as the documentation and administration of medications for the shelter animals. This position will learn how to administer various medications, keep and maintain proper medical records, prepare surgery tools, as well as will assist with other tasks related to the spay and neuter clinic and shelter.
