Adoption Counselor and animal caretaker–
This opening is for an Adoptions counselor/Animal care provider to serve as a part of our team at our no-kill organization. This position is based at our West Des Moines location and is a fast paced environment and will include hours in the afternoons and evenings with one weekend day required. Full-time employees have set schedule of 4 days a week, shifts typically range from 8-10 hours.
Position will include time providing care and cleaning for the animals at the shelter as well as counseling potential adopters and processing adoptions. Will also include other duties as assigned. Attention to detail, a positive can-do attitude, ability to excel in a fast paced environment, strong multitasking skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with technology, able to stand and walk for long periods of time and be able to lift at least 50lbs. All team members must be passionate about our no-kill community building mission, love animals, and have internal drive to learn and communicate with team members for the benefit of the animals depending on us. Must have minimum one year customer services experience.

Vet Tech and Medical Care Coordinator–This position works in our spay/neuter clinic assisting our staff vet with surgeries 2-3 days a week as well as providing medical care for shelter animals, both housed at the shelter and housed with foster families. Position encompasses a part-time position at the clinic and a part-time position at the shelter. Excellent communication skills as well as a minimum of one year experience with vet tech or vet assistant duties is required. Must enjoy working with animals and people, be able to work independently, and prefer a busy work day. Multi-tasking skills will be used daily. Must be a team player, working cooperatively and supporting adoption and animal care coworkers. Tasks include initial evaluation of animals, prepping for surgery, documenting of medical treatments and evaluations, preparation of medications and treatments, care of animals with medical needs, check in and check outs of community owned animals, communication with foster care providers, staff and adopters related to medical needs of animals and other tasks as assigned. Applicants must be passionate about our mission to build a no-kill community and have a positive can-do attitude. Our spay clinic performs approximately 3000 surgeries annually. One weekend day will be required–weekly schedule will include 4 days a week. Additionally, as a part of the medical team, must be available on rotating shifts to be on-call for emergency needs.
