How do I reclaim my pet?
You may call us at (515) 371-5586 on weekdays from 8am-8pm or on weekends from 10am-5pm to make arrangements to reclaim your pet.
You are also welcome to come directly to our main shelter, 3505 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines, from 2-8pm weekdays or 11am-5pm weekends without calling in advance. Please note that city scheduled impound and boarding fees apply to impounded animals and that ID is required to reclaim an animal. We accept cash and credit/debit cards only.
Fees are as follows, subject to change:
1st impound: $50
2nd impound: $75
3rd and subsequent impounds: $100
Impound boarding: $10/day after the first 24 hours
Microchip implant (optional): $10
Rabies vaccine (if required for bite hold): $10
Animal control services
In 2017, Furry Friends Refuge expanded its partnership with the western suburban cities to directly take in stray animals from Clive, and Urbandale and work immediately to reunite pets with their owners.
As soon as an animal is brought to us, we will scan it for a microchip and contact any owner information listed. Stray pets are held for 7 days if identifiably owned (microchip/collar/tags/altered/etc.) and 5 days with no signs of ownership in Clive and Urbandale. All found pets are also listed on Iowa Pet Alert and the corresponding Facebook Page.
At the end of this period, unclaimed animals will be placed for adoption through Furry Friends.
